Boyd Jones, 93, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at his daughter’s home in Lenoir, NC. Boyd was born June 1, 1923 in Johnston County to Cedrick Wheaton Jones and Rena Hill Jones. Boyd was a faithful and loving husband to his wife of 50 years. He was a most wonderful and loved Daddy and Granddaddy. He absolutely loved and enjoyed spoiling his grandson. He was very proud of his grandson. He always had a warm and sweet smile and disposition about him. Boyd enjoyed going to the beach and fishing from the pier. Boyd also enjoyed plowing in his garden with his old Farmall 100. He would go and visit with people and enjoyed their company. He was a retired driver for Overnite Transportation Company.  He liked driving and seeing all of his customers who became friends over the years. He enjoyed calling his friends weekly to check on them. He was a simple man who knew the secret of the ability to enjoy his family and life itself. He had a big heart for others and would reach out to help whenever and wherever he could throughout his life. He enjoyed the simple pleasure of sitting on the porch in his rocking chair. His life was truly a blessing to many. He will always be greatly missed!

He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Gower Jones and his son Michael Kent Jones.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Sandie Jones Harper and husband Sam L. Harper of Lenoir, NC; grandson, Eugene H. Hester II of Lenoir, NC; sisters: Molly Jones Penny of Garner, NC, Irene Jones Godwin of Clayton, NC; brother, Charles H. Jones and wife Barbara Jones of Clayton, NC; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. 

In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice in honor of Boyd Jones’ life.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 6020 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, NC 27610. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends following the committal service in the church sanctuary.
