Herbert Shirley, 88, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017. He was born January 28, 1929 in Greene County, NC to the late George William Shirley and Rena Sewell Shirley. Herbert honorably served his country in the US Army. For 38 years he worked in ticket sales with Carolina Coach Company.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park with Military Honors, 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC 27603.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service on Tuesday from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at the funeral home.

Surviving: children: Wanda Shirley MacBlain (Craig) of Selma, Vera Shirley Simms (Mark) of Salem, VA, Randall Shirley (Tammy) of Raleigh, and Ricky Reeves of Raleigh; 3 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Horace Shirley (Betty) of Wendell; sisters: Patricia Robbins (Harold) of FL, Ellen Sineath of Raleigh. 

In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by wife, Josephine Wood Shirley.
