My Father was in Law Enforcement in 1978 when Mr. DeMent represented him in a Legal Matter. His Skill won the Acquittal and he would take no Payment--He Said he did not charge Law Enforcement Officers who have been unjustly accused. I was 19 at the time but I have never forgotten his Integrity as well as the Kindness & Generosity he showed my Family.

The passing of a great man and attorney to whom many are indebted for his skills and compassion.

. I read his obituary with sadness as I know how outstanding Russell was to the legal profession for so many years. He was one-of-a -kind who will can never be replaced.

Thank you, Russell, for all that you have done for so many. Your reputation will live on for many years.

Our prayers and thoughts go out to the DeMent family . Russell and his wife Lynn were two of the most professional and admirable people I ever met at my father's gas station . It made my day when they came and I got to pump their gas ,wash the windshield ,and carry-on a wonderful conversation with two great knowledgeable people . My mother and two sisters feel the same way . With sympathy Ronnie Hinson and family .

North Carolinians lost an honorable, kind, determined, gentle giant that loved his family and never lost his respect for others. A man that believed in the rule of law, right from wrong, and since of fair play. His example in living life was so infectious, others were inspired to attempt to emulate the demeanor of "Russell DeMent." !! He showed all of us compassion, equality, empathy, the bond of friendship and the since of fair play. Russell fought for the rights of others be they weak or strong and regardless of their statue in life.

I am convinced that when Russell DeMent passed away, he stood on bended knee in the presence of God Almighty and heard the utterance, "Well Done Thy Good and Faithful Servant."

Rest in peace my good friend until we meet again in eternity.

What a great man. I first met Russell with his father in 1960 at our motel in Harker's Island. My father showed the two Russells how to float fish for king mackerel. Little did he know that father and son, "country boys" were such quick learners. That afternoon the Demen's returned from Cape Lookout in their 13 foot Boston Whaler with a72 pound KING MACKERAL, which, I believe is still one of the largest ones landed in our area.

Russell shared with his father, as I did with mine, a great appreciation of the outdoors, a good life lived, and the joy of friends and family.

Have a great voyage, see you at the Cape !

Mr. Dement, Thank you for everything you did for me in my cases. I not only considered you a great lawyer I also considered you as my great friend. You treated everybody with the upmost respect and always had something nice to say. But your humor is what touched me most. You were a great man. You and Dottie always had time to sit and talk and make me feel comfortable. I pray for your family in this great time of loss of such a great man. I know your son will carry out your great legacy. You were a true gentleman and a scholar. We love. The Jackson Family.

Mr. Dement was an outstanding person. It was a pleasure to know him and his son at the Courthouse, as I worked for the Sheriff's Office. Mr Dement always had a smile , handshake and a pat on the back whenever we met. It was a honor to know him and all our lives have been touched in apositive way because of him.
