Henry “Dick” Vann Cooke, Sr., 78, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016. Dick was born October 21, 1938 in Wake County to the late James Nathan Cooke and Helen Holden Cooke. He honorably served his country in the US Army and went on to work as an inspector for CP&L and retired with 42 years of service. As long as his health permitted, Dick was very devoted to his church as well as his family and friends. His zest for life will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

 A service to celebrate his life will be held 1:00 pm, Monday, October 31, 2016 at Green Pines Baptist Church, 1498 Hodge Road, Knightdale, 27545. Entombment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, 27603 with Military Honors.

 The family will receive relatives and friends from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, Sunday, October 30, 2016 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545 and other times at the Cooke home in Barclay Downs.

 Surviving: wife of 52 years, Barbara Smith Cooke; son, Henry Vann Cooke, Jr. (Kimberly) of Littleton; daughter, Vanessa C. Ray (Lee) of Raleigh; grandchildren: Holden N. Ray, Joseph T. Ray, Paige N. Cooke, Wade D. Cooke; sister, Mary Elizabeth Robertson (Phillip) of Wake Forest; a host of nieces and nephews and special friends.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Green Pines Baptist Church.
