Blanche Horton Ray, age 97, of 616 Stratford Drive, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 18, 2016 surrounded by her loving and caring family. Blanche was born in Wake County on December 9, 1918 to the late Charlie H. Horton and Lillie Jones Horton.  She retired as the Assistant Principal at Independence High School in Charlotte, where she made her home for 38 years.  After retiring in Zebulon to be near family and friends, she and her husband, the late Archibald Sereno Ray, Jr. were active members of the Zebulon United Methodist Church.

 A service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Zebulon United Methodist Church, 121 W. Gannon Ave. Zebulon, North Carolina 27597.  Burial will follow the service at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC 27603.

 The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 6:00-8:00 pm at

L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545, and other times at the home.

 Surviving: daughter, Serena R. Pearce (Clyde); son, Stanley R. Ray (Mary) Mt. Holly; grandchildren: Christa P. Honeycutt (Brent), Melissa R. Wooten (Ray), David H. Ray (Simone); great-grandchildren: Karli, Conner, Pierce, Caleb, Kelcey, Isaac, Joshua, Matthew; special nieces and nephews.

 In addition to her parents, and her husband Archie, Blanche was preceded in death by her daughter,

Susan Katherine Ray; brother, Charlie Lowell Horton; sister, Mozelle H. Durrance.

 In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Zebulon United Methodist Church.
