Willie James Cox

Willie James Cox, 83, passed away at the home of his son in Raleigh, NC on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. He was born April 12, 1939 in Anson County, NC to the late Johnnie Cox and Pauline Sturdivant Cox. He retired from the Metropolitan Suburban Bus Authority as a bus driver in 1996. 

A graveside service will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Nassau Knolls Cemetery,  Port Washington, NY.

He is survived by his sons: Steven, Jeffrey and Andre Cox (Vikki, deceased); daughters: Vanessa Cox Williams (Owen), Valerie Cox Dantzler (Tony), Vera Cox Booker (Alan); goddaughter, Wendy Sumpter; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters: Roberta Goins, Ruth Massey, Pauline McCoy; brothers: Robert Cox, Freddie Cox; host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. 

In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his second wife, Juanita Cox; ex-wife, Orgie Cox; sisters: Lynn, Martha, Jannie, Emma, Shirley, Loretta, Minnie; brothers: Big Johnnie, Little Johnnie, Walter and James Thomas.
