Sara (King) Spell

Sara King Spell, 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2018 at her home. She was born September 8, 1921 in Robeson County to the late Harvey McCall King and Dora Herring King. She attended East Carolina University Teachers’ College prior to marrying the love of her life, O.G. Spell, Jr.  She was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker who devoted her time and care to her family.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 pm at the church.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Wendell United Methodist Church, 129 N. Main Street, Wendell, NC 27591. Inurnment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, 809 W. Gannon Avenue, Zebulon, NC 27597.

Sara is survived by her son, Oscar Glenn Spell, III and wife, Gale of Chapel Hill; daughter, Laura Spell Watkins of Wendell; grandchildren: Rachel Spell Bingham, Oscar Glenn Spell, IV, John Wesley Watkins; great-grandchildren: Brandon and Matthew Bingham.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, O.G. Spell, Jr.; son, Dr. John Harvey Spell; sisters: Margaret, Doris, Anne; brothers: Hinton, Charles, and Ralph.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wendell United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 1925, Wendell, NC 27591.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. John R. Sinden, as well as Jean, Janice, and Patricia for their extraordinary care.
