Robert Lee Watkins

Robert Lee Watkins, 93, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021. He was born March 11, 1928 in Franklin County to the late Aaron Proctor Watkins and Rosa Perry Watkins. Robert honorably served his country in the US Navy. He retired with many years of service as a heavy equipment operator with Nello Teer Stone Company. After retirement he drove cars at the Kenly Car Auction, he loved to collect and recycle aluminum cans. 

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, 809 W Gannon Ave.,  Zebulon with Military Honors. 

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Gay Watkins, whom he married June 3, 1950; sons: Robert Earl Watkins, Jerry Wayne Watkins and wife, Debbie: daughters: Linda W. Weathington and husband, Allan, Wanda W. Cashwell and husband, Don, Donna W. Hicks and husband, Richard; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; brothers: Charles Watkins, Chester “Buddy” Watkins; sister, Gracie W. Rogers. 

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by son, Randy Lee Watkins; brothers: Donald Wayne Watkins and Harvey Proctor Watkins.
