Obituary

Robert Lee Scarboro III “Bob” age 79, passed away unexpectedly on January 12, 2021, at his home in Garner, NC. Bob was born on September 17, 1941, in Wendell, NC, son of Robert Lee Scarboro Jr. and Isabell Sparks Scarboro. Bob was a very proud alumna of the NC School for the Deaf (NCSD) in Morganton. Bob’s earliest training and job was a printer, however, he retired after a 20+ year career with the US Postal Service. Bob was an active member of the Triangle Association of the Deaf, as well as the Capital Deaf Seniors and Wilson Deaf Seniors organizations. He loved playing and later watching all kinds of sports, especially football and baseball.  In 2002, Bob was honored by being inducted into the NCSD Athletic Hall of Fame, for his Outstanding Contributions to NCSD Athletics. Above all, he loved being with family and friends. 

Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Snakenberg “Kaye” Scarboro, and lovingly remembered by children: James Robert Scarboro and his wife, Megan of Austin, TX, Karen Scarboro Magoon and her husband, Jason of Garner, NC; and Dr. Jennifer Scarboro Hensley and her husband, Matthew of Phoenix, AZ and grandchildren: Ryan, Rachel, John, Kate, William, Sutton and June. 

He is also survived by his sister, Mary Scarboro Williamson and her husband James “Barney” (deceased) of Wilson, NC , his sister Ann Scarboro Riddle and her husband Ronnie of Spartanburg, SC, his brother-in-law James Earnest “Jim” Snakenberg Jr. and his wife Susan of Oak Island, NC, and by his nephews/nieces: Lee Williamson, Ron Riddle Jr., Amy Williamson, and Wanda Riddle Carey.

Due to the pandemic, Bob’s funeral will be limited to a family viewing and private graveside services at the family cemetery located adjacent to the Hephzibah Baptist Church, of Wendell, NC.
