Peggy (Gates) King

Peggy Gates King, 87, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020. She was born September 5, 1933 in Guilford County to the late Charlie B. Gates and Donna Ruth Wall Gates. Peggy’s working career included Bell South Telephone Co., Star Flight Gas Station, NC Department of Revenue and Manager of Shady Acres Mobile Home Park. 

Funeral service 12:00 pm, Sunday, November 8, 2020 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC. Entombment will follow at Old Knightdale Baptist Church Cemetery, Knightdale. 

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home. 

Surviving: son, Steve Johnson (Freda) of Alabama; daughters: Deborah Johnson (Clay Archambult) of Georgia, Donna Kay Brown (Eddie) of Lake Gaston, Brenda Honeycutt (Ronnie Stancil) of Wendell; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Peggy Gates, Faye Gates. 

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by husband, Robert S. Johnson, father of Debbie, Steve and Donna; her friend, John A. Honeycutt, father of Brenda; her friend, Rufus M. Kale, father of Sheree; husband, William Rufus “Billy” King, husband, Robert Samuel “Bob” Troxler, Jr.; daughter, Sheree Odell; son-in-law, Timothy S. Odell; great-granddaughter, Emily B. Carter; brothers: Charles Gates, Bennett Gates, Adrien Gates, Harry Gates, Thomas Ogburn “TO” Gates; sister, Betty Jones; sisters-in-law: Juanita Gates and Katherine Gates; brother-in-law, Pete Jones.
