Obituary

On January 20, 2023, Patricia (Pat) Ilene Black left this life for Heaven, the place that has no dementia-- only perfect health in the presence of Jesus her Lord and Savior.

Pat Ilene Black was born on May 22, 1949, in Kingsport, TN to Orville and Mary Lee Hyatt. She grew up in Kingsport, making lifelong friends including her best friend Barbara Grizzle, through high school where she graduated and went on to start her work career. This is also where she met and soon after married the love of her life Darrell Black on January 10, 1970. They were married in the middle of a big snowstorm that could not stop this love connection from starting what would become an almost 45-year marriage before the passing of Darrell on July 10, 2014.

In the next five years Pat and Darrell relocated to Chattanooga, TN where they welcomed their one bundle of joy, a son named Todd. In 1980, the now family of three relocated to Cumberland, RI where Pat would begin her 10-year career with Health-Tex. Starting in an entry level position, Pat attended CCRI, earning several clerical certificates which quickly led to her promotion to a supervisory position where she managed a team in the main offices. While in RI, Pat found a new hobby of making candies and cakes. Pat again attended classes and became a wonderful artist in the field of baking and confections. Pat would go on to bless many people with her phenomenal creations.

Pat worked with Health-Tex until 1989, when the family relocated again to her final home in Knightdale, NC. Pat finished her working career with the Wake County Public School System as a bookkeeper for Knightdale High School and Wendell Middle School. Pat really enjoyed working in the schools but ultimately wanted more time with her family.

On January 8, 2008, Pat and Darrell became grandparents for the first time, welcoming their twin granddaughters Faith and Taylor. The new grandparents were overjoyed and spent every waking and sleeping hour they could with their pride and joy. Fast forward to August 23, 2012; they welcomed their third and final grandchild and first grandson Tyson. Pat was a loving wife, mother, grammie, sister, friend, and so much more. She spent a lifetime taking care of her loved ones, and she in return was loved and cherished by so many.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Gene, Dickie and Orville; her sisters Phoebe and Rachel, as well as her husband Darrell. She is survived by her son, daughter-in -law Becky, and their 3 children; sister Kathy Rodgers of Georgia and her 2 children Richard and Becky; nephew Tim Mann of California; nephew John Dean of South Carolina; niece Julie Black Martin and nephew Jason Black of Georgia.
