Mary (Cotton) Matheny

Mary Cotton Matheny, 88, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023. She was born February 3, 1935 in Buies Creek, NC to the late Charlie Lee and Viola A. Cotton.

Mary was a great mom devoting her time to raising her daughters.  She also loved gardening and had an awesome green thumb. She could bring any flower to bloom. Mary was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters: Natalie M. Norris (Craig) of Archer Lodge, Diane M. Olive

(Billy) of Wendell; grandchildren: Daryl Norris (Sarah), Stephanie Norris, Austin Olive, and Lauren Olive; four great grandchildren: Annabelle, Lucy, Hazel, and Mabel; and her sister: Patricia C. Reynolds (Art) of Woodbridge, VA.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Vaudry Otis Matheny, Jr., sisters: Betty Ebert and Carol Green.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, November 13, 2023 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Hillcrest Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to thank The Addison of Knightdale for the excellent care that was given to Mary during the time she spent there.
