Mary Ann Richardson Coley, 81, passed away Monday, September 20, 2021. She was born September 5, 1940 to the late Hazel Flood and Earl Barbour Richardson.
Ann was raised in her early years on a farm in Johnston County, and later Raleigh when her family relocated during her high school years. She graduated from Cary Senior High School. In addition to mother and homemaker, she held positions in Raleigh at the NC Forest Service, Life of Georgia Ins Co, Sears, and Wake County School Food Service before retiring from Martin Marietta. Ann was a long time member of New Hope Baptist Church in Raleigh. She was very involved in her community and church, serving as a member of the Lady’s Auxiliary of the Wake New Hope Volunteer Fire Dept, Girl Scout Leader, Softball Coach, Enloe sports booster club member, Sunday School teacher, and Deacon.
She lived in Wake County all her adult life except 9 years in Hillsville, VA where she and husband, Albert Coley had 9 acres of land, a small apple orchard, a few bears and a herd of deer to help take care of the apple orchard. In 2016 they relocated to Springmoor Retirement community on Sawmill Road in Raleigh. They were happy there and made many new friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will not have a formal visitation, but anyone wishing to pay their respects prior to the service may view from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm at the funeral home.
Surviving: children: Alan Bennett Coley (Kim), Patricia Ann Coley, Andrew Barrett Coley (Jackie); grandchildren: Matthew Bennett, Elizabeth Grace and Charlotte Faith Coley; brother, Edward Earl Richardson; sisters-in-law: Sue Coley Brewer (Wray), Debbie Coley Gambill (Martin); brother-in-law, Dale R. Coley (Norma Jean); and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by husband, Albert Bennett Coley; sisters-in-law, Joyce Richardson, Lillian Coley Lassiter; brother-in-law, Bob Lassiter; mother-in-law, Magnolia Medlin Coley; and father-in-law, Albert Edgar Coley.
