Mary Sholar Brown, 88, of Knightdale, passed away September 21, 2021 (at her daughter’s home). Mary was born in Duplin County on April 13, 1933 to the late Joseph Bland Sholar and Ada Henderson Sholar. She retired from the Wake County School System as a child nutritionist. Mary loved working in her vegetable garden and made sure her family, neighbors, and friends shared the fruits of her labor. She enjoyed her flowers, fishing, and visiting her family and friends. For many have been blessed around her table, she shared her abundance of love as she watched others enjoy her well known mouth-watering, home-made biscuits.
Survivors include her loving husband of 66 years, Herman Marchel Brown; her son, James Allen Brown and wife, Shelby of Wake Forest; her daughter, Wanda Brown Mattingly and husband, Gary of Siler City; her four grandchildren: Joshua Brian Mattingly (Beka), Kristen Hope Phillips (Brett Lee), Heather Lauren Townsend (Chris), Steven Tyler Brown (Shyanne); and 8 great grandchildren.
In addition she was proceeded in death by her siblings: James Allen Sholar, Joseph Elwyn Sholar, Thomas Jefferson Sholar, Margaret Sholar Cottle, and JR Cavenaugh.
The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers and friends: Ann Marsh Jordan, Deanne Marsh, Lavonda Farrar, Nancy Lee and Donny Myers. They loved her like family and she loved them.
A graveside service will be conducted at The Brown Cemetery, 1220 Pasture Branch Road, Beulaville, NC on September 27 at 1:00 officiated by Pastor Randall Reece.
The family will receive family and friends in the fellowship hall at the Oak Dale PFWB Church, 1231 Deep Bottom Rd, Wallace, NC from 2:00-4:00.
