Marie M. Wilson, 90, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Duke Raleigh Hospital. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 20, 1928, to Herman Maas and Emma Lefevre. A member of United Steelworkers Local 2609, Wilson worked at Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Dundalk, Maryland, for 32 years. She was the first woman to work in the chemical lab and on the steel side of the Dundalk plant, opening a variety of traditionally male jobs to women at the plant. She and her husband, Ernest, moved to Port Charlotte, Florida, for 23 years following retirement. They relocated to Middlesex, North Carolina, in 2010 to live closer to family.
She is survived by her sisters: Katherine Turner of Florida, Louise Denkenberger of West Virginia, and Charlotte Loughery of Maryland; a daughter, Patti Gaudet; and a granddaughter, Alisa DeMao.
A small, private service will be held in Baltimore.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Middlesex Children’s Home, PO Box 249, Middlesex, NC, 27557.
