Lloyd Morrison Brown

Lloyd Morrison Brown, 86, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023. He was born May 21, 1936, in Jamaica to the late Henry Arthur Brown and Rebertha Black-Brown. Lloyd was educated in Jamaica, U.K. and USA, obtaining degrees from London School of Economics; Ruskin College, Oxford University; and Barry University, Florida. Lloyd’s long career in Jamaica included executive positions at West Indies Glass Co., Guinness Jamaica Ltd., and Jamaica Public Service (JPS). Lloyd then served several terms as a judge on Jamaica’s Industrial Disputes Tribunal before retiring and relocating to Knightdale, NC. 

Lloyd was a long-standing member of Vineyard United Town Methodist Church in Kingston, Jamaica, where he sang with the choir, was a lay preacher, Sunday School teacher, and treasurer among other roles. He was also a Freemason and a member of the Lodge Imperial Service 978 SC and Lodge Stony Hill 1820 SC, in Jamaica, rising to the position of Right Worshipful Master of both Craft Lodges. 

Lloyd had wide and varied interests and was never afraid of embarking on new adventures. He took up running and was a regular participant in the 10-mile Guinness Road Race in Jamaica. In his 40s he began learning to play the piano.  He studied karate, becoming a 4th-degree black belt and sensei. He was an avid collector of Jamaican art, his enthusiasm limited only by his wall space. 

He is survived by his dear wife Pamela Jackson-Brown; son, Robert; stepchildren: Akil James T. Campbell and Nicola Campbell; siblings: Jay Brown (Debbie), Joyce Neverson (Daril), Noel Brown (Phyllis) and Linda Robotham; sisters-in-law: Madge (Ronald) and Cynthia (Hugh); and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved ones. 

In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by his sons: Derek and Gordon; brothers: Hugh, Ronald, and Byron; and sister, Sylvia Monica. 

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, January 27, 2023, at St. James United Methodist Church, 3808 St. James Church Road, Raleigh, NC. Masks are encouraged. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St James United Methodist Church in memory of Lloyd Morrison Brown.
