Linnie (Price) Murphrey

Linnie Price Murphrey, 86, went rejoicing to meet her Lord on Monday, September 18, 2023 at UNC Rex Healthcare, Raleigh, NC. She was born in Zebulon, NC on January 27, 1937 to the late Odell and Doris Price. She graduated from Wakelon High School in 1955 and attended Hardbarger Business College, Raleigh, NC. She met and married Jesse D. Murphrey on October 5, 1963. Linnie was a devoted Christian since childhood and was an active member of both Pilot Baptist Church and Mount Moriah Baptist Church. After declining health, she and Jesse moved to Knightdale and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church where they were immediately welcomed into the fellowship. Although she had impaired vision since childhood, which progressed as she grew into adulthood, she did not allow her disability to hinder her Christian service. She taught Sunday school, VBS, served on the Sunshine Committee, and various other committees. Cooking meals, visiting shut-ins, and sending cards to those in need was her passion and ministry outside of the church. Linnie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent most of her life raising her two daughters on her parent’s farm near Zebulon. She cherished the time spent with family. Her greatest passion was her daily time in prayer and reading the Bible. Other hobbies included cooking, sewing, gardening and walking.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 8400 Poole Rd, Knightdale.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 pm at the church.

A private interment will be held at Zebulon Town Cemetery.

Linnie is survived by her daughters: Jessica M. Clark (Don) of Goldsboro, NC and Donica M. O’Leary (Pat) of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren: Meredith Clark of Wilmington, NC, Madeline Clark of Wilmington, NC, Brooke Price (Gabe) of San Diego, CA, John O’Leary, Jr. of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Haley Kimbrell (Nathan of Coral Springs, FL; great-grandchildren: Anna Grace and Lucas Kimbrell; and her cousin (whom she considered her sister) Clara Murphrey (Yates) of Zebulon, NC.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jesse D. Murphrey; her parents: Odell and Doris Price and her brother, Shelby Price.

Special recognition and thanks to her caregiver for over four years, Veronica Staggers. The family expresses gratitude to the numerous friends, family and caretakers who have shown acts of kindness to the family and assisted in helping her leave this world for her eternal home in Heaven with dignity and love. Many thanks to all of the healthcare workers at UNC Rex Healthcare, especially the nursing team on 8HV.
