Kenneth Michael Whitaker

Kenneth Michael Whitaker, 73, passed away July 25, 2021. Mike was born July 17, 1948 in Gastonia to the late Edgar Clayton Whitaker and Margaret Rogers Whitaker. He served the community and the people in the community as a fireman and a youth baseball and basketball coach. Mike loved the racetrack and went down a racetrack more times than a North Carolina mosquito bites. Mike’s second family was his fellow car owners.

As a family, our fondest memory of him is how much he loved to talk to people. He never met a stranger and would do anything he ever could to help anyone he knew, no matter what was needed and what time of day. We would like everyone to know how much Mike enjoyed talking with each and every person he ever met in his life.

He is survived by his loving family; his wife, Shirley; son, Chris Whitaker and wife Cheryl; daughter, Danielle Whitaker and significant other Matt Keith; grandchildren: Chris R. Whitaker, Gabby High, Maddy High, CJ Whitaker, and adopted granddaughter Abby Johnson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Tony, Clayton and Jimmy; and his sister, Nancy.

A memorial visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, August 2, 2021 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.
