Joyce Helen (Colley) Hill

Joyce Hill, 73, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021. She was born April 17, 1947 in Haysi, Virginia to the late Eddie French Colley and Trulah Viers Colley. She graduated in 1965 from Haysi High School and later married the love of her life, Garnice Donald Hill on June 7, 1980. Joyce was a devoted wife, loving mother of seven boys, and a doting grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. 

Joyce Hill or as the people that loved her called her (mom, gammaw or mammaw) was full of life and expressed her unconditional love to everyone she met. The sunshine she brought into a room would light up the darkest night. Gammaw was a beautiful soul, kind, generous, easy going, always ready for the next adventure with her kids and grandkids. Gammaw would party like a rock star but we knew that we could always depend on her because she was the rock of the Hill Family.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Garnice Donald “G.D.” Hill better known as “Papaw”, sons: Mark Allen Hill (Connie), Donald Brian Hill, Scotty Wayne Hill (Sue), Eric Eugene Hill (Regina), Ronald Wayne “Ron” Hill (Jaime), Richard Arion “Peewee” Hill, Randy Mack Hill (Heather); grandchildren: Cody (Andrea), Logan, Elijah, Brandon (Kayla), Payton, Brooke, Cameron (Payton), Alexis, Tyler, Daniel, Austin, Heather, Dakota; great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Luciana, Jada, Chanel; sister, Norma C. Fuller (Bob); and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her brothers: Carl, Glen, and James Colley.

A service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, April 2, 2021 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale. For anyone unable to attend, the service will be live streamed and can be viewed by clicking the live stream link below.
