Joyce (Horton) Clark Lewis

Joyce was born April 30, 1934 and departed this life on November 20, 2021 to meet her Savior and her father and mother, Tommie and Ruby Young Horton; husbands: Dennis C. Clark and Harvey Lewis; father and mother-in-law, Joseph Robert and Ida Strickland Clark; sisters and their husbands: Gracie and Johnnie Jones, Frances and Bruce Carroll; brothers and their wives: Rufus and Josephine Horton, Wesley and Lola Mae Horton, W.G. (Red) and Maggie Horton, Sam and Peggy Horton along with many other dear ones. Joyce’s daughter, Teresa Bowman Watkins passed away the same evening as her mother, Joyce. 

Those left behind to rejoice are daughters: Denise Clark, Cindy Southard; son-in law, Jim Watkins; grandchildren: Chris Watson (Tammie), Brian Watson (Frances), Kelly Best (Billy), Cade Bowman (Kristin), Heath Bowman (Alyssa); along with eight great-grandchildren: Jenna and Kaylynn Watson; Cody, Torie and JB Watson; Brittany, Brandon and Bradley Mullins, Kensley, Scarlett and Xavier Pearce. There are also many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. 

Joyce was an active member of the Knightdale United Methodist Church for as long as she was physically able. She retired from the NC Department of Transportation in 1993, having worked there 35 years. She worked with Carolina Coach Company for three years prior to working at the NC Dept. of Transportation. 

Visitation with the families of Joyce and Teresa will be held from 12:00 to 1:45 pm, Friday, November 26, 2021 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale and other times at 302 Rochelle Drive, Knightdale. 

Funeral services for Joyce and her daughter, Teresa will be held 2:00 pm at the funeral home. 

Final rites for Teresa will be held at the Watkins Family Cemetery, Watkins Town Road, Raleigh followed by final rites for Joyce at the Clark Family plot at Knightdale United Methodist Church Cemetery on First Avenue, Knightdale. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
