Johnnie “Howard” Alford, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Howard was born November 15, 1931 in Wake County to the late Johnnie Burdell Alford and Mattie Perry Alford. He graduated from Rolesville High School in 1950 and honorably served our country in the US Army. Howard retired as a delivery driver from Sears and continued to work, following his retirement, at Lowe’s Home Improvement.
Howard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Josephine Perry Alford; daughter, Pamela Alford Lloyd; son, Jeffrey H. Alford (Beverly); grandchildren: Ashlynn A. Moore (Brock), Alex Alford (Amber), Alex Kennedy, Abby Kennedy, Lawton Kennedy, Lisa Lee, Jennifer Reed; great-grandchildren: Jessica, Makenzie, Olivia, Rylee, Easton, Kolbie; and his sister, Sylvia Bolton.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Thurston Lloyd; brother, Jessie Alford; sisters: Ada Woodlief, Mavis Johnson, Christine Alford, and Ruth Hicks.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, March 16, 2020 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Beulah Christian Baptist Church, 8225 Mitchell Mill Road, Zebulon, NC 27597. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
