John Herman Steinmetz Jr.

John Herman Steinmetz, Jr., 94, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2019. He was born February 26, 1925 in Long Island City, NY to the late John Herman Steinmetz, Sr. and Caroline Cesar Steinmetz. John honorably served his country in the US Army during WWII in France, Germany and Austria. He was a member of American Legion Maspeth Post 783 in Queens, NY and American Legion Post 187 in Wake Forest. Following his military service, he worked with Sohmer Pianos and later retired as head custodian with the Lynbrook School District, Long Island, NY.  

Funeral service 12:00 pm, Friday, September 13, 2019 at Friendship Baptist Church, 5510 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh. Entombment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park with Military Honors.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the church.

Surviving: daughter, Joan M. Sadler and husband, Junnie R. Sadler of Wake Forest; granddaughter: Jennifer R. Sadler Wicklund and husband, Lucas Wicklund of Raleigh; nephew-in-law, Stephen C. Jaye of New York City, NY.            

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hardt Steinmetz.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Baptist Church.
