John Dennis Lucas, 80, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021. He was born February 8, 1940 in Wilson County to the late Joseph Lucas and Marie Wells Lucas. John honorably served his country for over twenty-three years in the US Air Force and US Navy. After his discharge he went to work for the US Postal Service and retired after thirteen years of service. John was a member of the American Legion Post #529.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1717 Lane Street SE, Wilson.
An open viewing will be held from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Saturday, January 23, 2021 (family will not be present) at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale.
John is survived by a daughter, Leslie May Ramsay; grandchildren: Lawrence, Michael, Brandon, Katie, Kayla; several great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Debarros; his brother, Joseph C. Lucas and wife Hester; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Jane Peters Lucas; and a son, Lorenzo Balbuena.
