Obituary

Jerry Carl Byrd, Sr. 73 passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. Jerry was born on September 11, 1946, in Johnson County.

Most people knew him as Jerry or JC, we knew him as Daddy and Papa. Our words are inadequate to describe what he meant to us. He made life special for us in ways too numerous to count. A brilliant and humble man, he was grateful for every aspect of his life. We are confident that upon entering the Lord’s presence, JC heard the words of Matthew 25:23 “His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your Lord’s happiness!’”

JC loved his friends and community and was always available to lend a helping hand. Never formally retiring and working up until his health didn’t allow, his greatest professional accomplishment was the establishment of J.C.’s Electric Service, Inc.

JC had a long and meaningful 53 years with his soulmate and love of his life, Rebecca. He took the utmost pride in his family but his favorites were always his grandchildren and in June 2018 his heart grew even larger with the birth of his great-granddaughter. JC was preceded in death by his mother Jeanette Noah, his brothers Jesse and Johnny Byrd, and his sister Judy McLamb.

JC would want each and every person to know that the promise of eternal life can be yours too just by believing in Jesus Christ.

To cherish and remember his memory and influence, he is survived by his wife Rebecca Byrd of the home, daughter Donna Wall (husband Robbie), son Jerry Byrd, Jr. (wife Donna), five grandchildren: Brittany Clark (husband Pierre), Meredith Massey, Matthew Wall, Dianna Byrd, Dalton Byrd, great-granddaughter Teagan Clark, and sister Joyce Crowder.

JC leaves behind many special friends including his beloved caregiver, Benita Oloyede, to whom the family extends our deepest gratitude. In lieu of flowers, JC asked for memorial contributions to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

A celebration of his life will be held Monday, February 3, 2020, at 11 am at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Knightdale. Burial will be in the adjacent church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall at the church immediately following the burial.
