Janie (Watkins) Murray

Janie Watkins Murray, 84, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022. Janie was born March 16, 1938 in Wake County to the late Lawrence Leland Watkins and Roberta Keith Watkins. She graduated from Rolesville High School in 1956 and worked with the NC Department of Motor Vehicles, where she retired with over twenty years of service. Janie was a faithful member of Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons: Donald Lawrence Zeigler (Ginny), James Edward Murray (Laura), and Keith Earl Murray (Tara); stepson, Craig Zeigler (Julia); grandchildren: Michael Murray, Lauren Z. Rust (Logan), Bailey Murray, Noah Murray, Lillian Murray, Jessica Jones (Will) and Jarrett Zeigler; great-grandchildren: Daniel Rust, Alaina Rust, Barrett Jones, Abigail Jones, Casen Jones, Jaxon Zeigler; and her sister, Linda W. Stell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Gay Murray in 2016.                

A memorial service to celebrate Janie’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church, 3328 Forestville Road, Raleigh, NC 27616.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 pm in the worship center.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church.
