James "Jim" Henry Lowery

James Henry Lowery ("Jim"), 93, died on May 2, 2022, following a brief illness. He was born February 28, 1929, in Halifax County, VA, to the late Charles Peyton, and Ottie Gravitt Lowry. He is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Everett Lowery. (“Red”), of Four Oaks, NC; and sisters: Geraldine Lowery Barbour, (“Gerry”), of Four Oaks, NC, and Rosaline Lowery LaBelle, (“Rose”), of Raleigh, NC.  Surviving is sister, Ruth Lowery Whitting, of Richmond, VA. 

James attended Johnston County Schools, graduating from Four Oaks High School in 1947.  He later attended Western Carolina College, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Following college and for most of his adult life, James worked for Adams Concrete Products, retiring as Vice President in 1991.  In his free time, James was an avid outdoorsman, particularly adept at both hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed many summers with his family boating on Kerr Lake, as well as yearly fishing trips to Canada. 

On December 2, 1950, James married the love of his life, Daisy Belle Miller.  For 64 years they were devoted not only to each other, but to their extended family and friends as well.  Guided by his devotion to family, James wholeheartedly embraced life as a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and more.  James was a quintessential fix-it man, and to have known James was to have known that you could always call on him for help. To have known Daisy was to have known that there would always be a delicious, home-cooked meal waiting for James when he was done helping others. To have known them both, was to have known true love. 

James is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Daisy Miller Lowery, of Benson, NC, and son, Christopher Henry Lowery, of Indian Trail, NC.  He is survived by son, James Kenneth Lowery and wife, Virginia, and granddaughter, Valerie Holt Leary and husband, Kurt, of Raleigh, NC; and Daughter in-law, Nancy Roach Lowery; granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Lowery; and grandson, Christopher James Lowery, of Indian Trail, NC.  Also left to cherish his memory are three great-grandchildren: Grayson Vickers, of Indian Trail, NC, Holt and Daisy Leary, of Raleigh, NC and special family member and housemate, Byron Simmons, Jr.; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. 

A memorial Service will be held at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory in Knightdale, NC at 2:00 pm on May 5, 2022. There will be a graveside service immediately following at Raleigh Memorial Park. For anyone unable to attend, the chapel service will be live streamed and can be viewed by clicking the live stream below. 

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 pm at the funeral home.
