Obituary

The Matriarch of our Murray Family went to be with her Lord and Savior for all of eternity on Monday morning, September 5th, 2022. Jacqueline was born May 1st, 1929, to Jessie and Bettie Driver in Nash County, N.C. She loved growing up on her family’s farm in Middlesex. She married her high school sweetheart, Bobby L. Murray, in 1947, and they moved to Raleigh where they would call home the rest of their lives.

Mother enjoyed being the bookkeeper at Murray’s Gulf Service on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh for many years. Then, when Daddy started Bobby Murray Chevrolet in the 60’s, Mother enjoyed being a homemaker and traveling with Daddy. They were faithful N.C. State fans, attending many basketball and football games. Mother and Daddy were married 56 years before his death in 2003. She spent the rest of her blessed life loving on her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family, always having the heart of a caregiver.

Mother was a faithful member of Forest Hills Baptist Church since the early 1950’s. She attended each week until her health prevented her from doing so. She served her Lord there by rocking and caring for the babies in the nursery for many, many years. She so enjoyed lunching with her faithful church friends, Hope Christian, Ann Powell, and Jean West. Another very special friend, was her sister-in-law, Ruth Murray, who also predeceased her.

She is survived by her brother, Glenn Driver and his wife, Josephine of Middlesex, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Other survivors are children: Vann Murray and his wife, Pattie of Little River, S.C., Carolyn Murray Smith of Pinehurst, Deborah Murray Fleming and husband, Robin of Raleigh, Bobby Murray, Jr. and his wife, Christine of Raleigh; grandchildren: Leslie Murray of Raleigh, Kevin Murray and wife, Jordan of Whispering Pines, Jodie Murray of Southern Pines, Wes Smith and wife, Anna of Pinehurst, Jacqueline Smith Capasso and husband, Matt of Raleigh, Elisabeth Fleming Cook and husband, K.C. of Alpharetta, GA, Joel Fleming and wife, Jordan of Raleigh, Sarah Fleming of Raleigh, Faith Murray Baeza and husband, Anton of Wake Forest, Trey Murray of Raleigh, and Megan Murray of Raleigh; great grandchildren: Taylor Sutter, Harrison Sutter, Maddox Murray, Presley Murray, Wen Smith, Rand Smith, Philip Smith, Bo Smith, MJ Capasso, Kara Capasso, Tim Capasso, Tyson Capasso, Evie Cook, Joely Beth Cook, Ruthie Cook, Essie Lou Cook, Hayes Fleming, Micah Baeza , and Milo Baeza.

Our mother is predeceased by her brother, Louis Driver and wife, Allene; sister, Naomi Johnson and husband, Rudolph; brother, J.D. Driver and wife, Helen; brother, Harold Driver and wife, Delilah; son-in-law, Wesley Smith.

Visitation will be at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 201 Dixie Trail, Raleigh, from 2:00-4:00 on Sunday, September 11th, followed by a Celebration of Life at 4:00.

There will be a private family burial.

1 Thessalonians 4:11 conveys our Mother’s life so well lived:

“…make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, minding your own business, and working with your hands…”    To God Be the Glory!
