Jacob Walter J.W. Dunn

Jacob Walter “J.W.” Dunn, 76, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 7, 2020. He was born November 26, 1943 in Wilson County to the late Walter Dunn and Carmen McLawhorn Dunn. He graduated from Elm City High School and attended Wilson Tech. J.W. honorably served his country in the US Army Reserves for fourteen years. He retired from IBM after thirty years of service and loved his ministry at Southeastern Free Will Baptist College for twenty-five years.

A funeral service will be held 12:30 pm, Friday, June 12, 2020 at Beacon Baptist Church, 2110 Trawick Road, Raleigh, 27604. Burial will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at the church.

Surviving: wife, Claudia Butler Dunn; daughter, Shannon Whitehurst and husband, David; son, Michael Butler Dunn and wife, Tracy; grandchildren: Michael, Joshua and Lyndsay Whitehurst; nieces: Carmen Franco, Carol Butler; nephews: Bryan Kelly, Dain Butler; brother-in-law, Tony Butler and wife, Penny.

In addition to his parents, J.W. was preceded in death by his sister, Llewellyn Vestal and her husband, Larry; grandson, Jacob Tyler Whitehurst.
