Herman “Marchel” Brown, (Papa) 92, of Knightdale passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021. He was born December 13, 1928 in Duplin County to the late George Pearl Brown and Easter Dixon. Marchel served in the US Army Engineers following WWII, being deployed to Austria. After serving, Marchel worked as a lineman for nearly twenty years for Stackhouse, Four County Electric and Asplundh. Following his career as a lineman Marchel was self-employed in the overhead door industry until he retired. Marchel enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming and spending time with family and friends. He took great pride in working his garden, and sharing his homemade jellies, vegetables and fruits.
He is survived by his son, James Allen Brown and wife, Shelby of Wake Forest; his daughter, Wanda Brown Mattingly and husband, Gary of Siler City; his four grandchildren: Joshua Brian Mattingly (Beka), Kristen Hope Phillips (Brett Lee), Heather Lauren Townsend (Chris), Steven Tyler Brown (Shyanne); and 8 great grandchildren.
After 66 years of marriage, Marchel was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sholar Brown by only two weeks. In addition he was preceded in death by his siblings: Myrtle B. Fields, David Brown, George Brown, Harry Brown, Vernon Brown, and Ray Sidney “Tinker” Brown.
A graveside service will be conducted at The Brown Cemetery, 1220 Pasture Branch Road, Beulaville, NC on 1:00 pm, Wednesday, October 13, 2021 officiated by Pastor Randall Reece.
The family will receive family and friends in the fellowship hall at the Oak Dale PFWB Church, 1231 Deep Bottom Rd, Wallace, NC from 2:00-4:00.
