Helena Tonette (Akers) Castleberry

Helena Tonette Castleberry of Garner, NC, died unexpectedly in her sleep on Monday March 22, 2021. She has been reunited with Kevin

Helena was born on January 5th, 1957 in Guam to Pervis and Peggy Akers.  She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Helen and Anthony Sisti, for whom she was named.  She married the love of her life, Kevin Castleberry, April 9th, 1984 in West Lafayette, IN.  She graduated from Saint Elizabeth Nursing School to pursue her passion of being a nurse and following in the footsteps of her grandmother.  She worked as a nurse, until health issues prevented her in 2019.

Helena was especially proud of her 38 years of sobriety.  She and Kevin often helped others in AA, including opening their home during their transitions.  She loved to quilt and showed what an amazing artist she was in every quilt she made.  Each one was unique and tailored to the person for whom she made it.  Helena enjoyed and frequently participated in multiple bible studies.  

Helena is preceded in death by her husband Kevin, and her parents Helen and Toni Sisti.

Helena is survived by her sisters Dawn Neal of Carmel, IN, Mary Lou (Monty) Montgomery of Portland, OR, her son David (Sarah) Raymer of West Lafayette, IN, her daughter Rebekah (Amine) Bellaj of Cary, NC, and her granddaughters Mary Bellaj, Mina Bellaj, and Cecilia Raymer.

Her beloved poodle Toni has been rehomed with her friend Tammy.

A private memorial service will be held in the future, at which time Kevin’s and her ashes will be spread at the ocean.  Memorials may be made in her name to Healing Transitions https://healing-transitions.org/ or Saving Grace Animal Rescue https://savinggracenc.org/.
