Helen Elizabeth (Neff) Barefoot

Helen Elizabeth Neff Barefoot, born October 23, 1946, in Rorschacherberg, Switzerland, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at her home in Wendell, NC. She was born to Helena Schokle and Anton Neff. Helen and her family immigrated to the US in 1954 and she became a naturalized citizen in 1965. She met her husband-to-be, Andy Barefoot in Washington State while he was stationed at McChord Air Force Base, married in 1968 and moved to North Carolina. Helen operated a day care from her home from 1974 – 1997 in Knightdale, NC.  She loved to care for children and had a gift for teaching. She loved sports, including bowling and softball and was very competitive in any type of game she played. Helen was very active in her local community and church. She was an usher and member of St. Eugene Catholic Church, a member of the Perennial Garden Club, the Red Hat Society, and an active member of the Raleigh Shrinettes, where she always left an impression. 

Helen left behind her loving husband, Andy Maurice Barefoot; her son Reece (Renee) Barefoot, her daughter Rita Gomillion and four grandchildren (Zach Barefoot, Riley Gomillion, Parker Gomillion, Sydney Barefoot). Also surviving is her brother Anton (Vicki) Neff, sister Verena (Kevin) Maurer and sister Rita Patten and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jacob Neff and granddaughter Jade Barefoot. 

The greatest joy and pride in her life were her children and grandchildren. She watched hundreds of games, activities, and performances.

A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30th, 2022, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.

In lieu of flowers, Helen requested that memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children at donate.lovetotherescue.org.  They can also be mailed to Amran Temple, 11101 Creedmoor Rd., Raleigh, NC 27614.
