Obituary

Mrs. Hattie Louise McKellar Inman, daughter of the late Mr. Fred McKellar and Freeda Dewitt Mckellar, was born in Durham, NC on January 7, 1933. She fell into her heavenly sleep as the gates of Heaven opened joyfully to receive her. Hattie received her early years of education in the public schools of Robeson County and graduated from Rosenwald High School in Fairmont, NC. She was a member of St. Luke’s Baptist Church in Laurelton, NY where she volunteered with the Food Pantry Ministry. Hattie and the late William Inman were united in matrimony in 1955, and they adventured to a prosperous future in New York. To this union 2 children were born, Cynthia and Anthony. She worked for the NY Stock Exchange for many years before retiring. During this time she loved to keep herself busy shopping, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She was a true people’s person. Hattie was also the queen of BBQ’S; she loved to cook and entertain with good music. She relocated to NC in 2017 to live with her daughter and family. She loved her new journey. She was a member of the Total Life Adult Center in Raleigh, NC, she loved playing bingo and dancing as well as the other activities the center offered to keep her busy. Hattie truly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday or holiday card and gift. She truly enjoyed her life and lived it to the fullest. She will truly be missed. 

                                                                                             “WHAT A WONDERFUL LIFE” 

There will be no group public visitation due to guidelines in place by the Governor. A viewing for the public will be Saturday, April 25, 2020 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm for anyone wishing to pay their respects you may stop by, although there cannot be more than ten people in the funeral home at one time.       

Hattie will be laid to rest beside her husband, William Gray Inman who preceded her in death on April 19, 1989 at Calverton National Cemetery in New York on Thursday, April 30, 2020. 

Surviving: son, William Anthony Inman and wife, Selene; daughter, Cynthia Inman Johnson and husband, Kenneth; grandchildren: Ericka C. Johnson Rios, Kenneth Johnson, Jr., Rashaun Inman, Makii Inman, Zachary Inman, Tyler Inman, Madisyn Inman; great-grandchildren: Leia Rios, Danielle Rios, Kaidence Espinal Johnson, Makii Inman, Jr.; sisters: Margaret M Dacosta and husband, Jorge, Catherine M Gaddy and husband, Ernest; brother, Fred McKellar, Jr. and wife, Sadie; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents and her husband, Hattie was preceded in death by a brother and six sisters.
