Georgia L. Barry, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully on Friday June 10th, 2022 at her home surrounded by her son, her special neighbor Marsha Farrell, and some very special Transitions Hospice team members. Georgia was born November 6, 1942 in Grayslake, Illinois to the late Larry and Rita Pulley. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Knightdale, NC for many years where she had enjoyed the love and support she found in her daughter’s of Ruth Sunday School class, at Wednesday night church meals and in worship. Due to health issues she had not been able to attend in person for quite some time but watched services online until recently.
Georgia worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Daily Herald, published by Paddock Publications in the Chicago area for 21 years until her retirement in 1993. She was greatly appreciated by her employers and was especially proud of the “Helpline” page she created and maintained for the paper until her retirement. The “Helpline” page included continual updates to resources to help individuals facing countless difficult life situations. Prior to her work at the Daily Herald she also served as an Administrative Assistant at Pure Oil Company.
Georgia was a very compassionate, caring person with an unwavering faith in God. For many years Georgia battled a variety of difficult health issues, including lung cancer, Gillian-Barre Syndrome, and other illnesses and yet kept a very positive outlook, a strong determination and an amazing faith. Fourteen of her doctors were absolutely amazed that she made it through the cancer and declared her a true medical miracle.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, James Phillip Barry, of 42 years. She is survived by her son, Scott Barry (of the home), her sister, Katie Bloodworth of Illinois, Sister-in-laws: Ellen Barry of Illinois, Eileen Steiner of Texas, Mary Bessemer (Eric) of Texas, Janet Steiner of Illinois and Joni Butke of New Jersey, and brother-in-law Greg Steiner (Sue) of Florida. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Healey.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church Friday June 24th at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:30-10:50. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and The American Lung Association.
