Elinor Mary (Tierney) Giroux

Elinor Mary Tierney Giroux, 82, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023. She was born July 24, 1940 in Lowell, Massachusetts to the late Joseph Edward Tierney and Irene Elizabeth Audet Tierney. She grew up in Massachusetts and Maine and then settled in Massachusetts with her husband Dean for many years to raise their family together. Elinor and Dean also lived in Texas for many years and then spent their retirement years in North Carolina. Elinor loved being near the ocean and visited the beach as often as she could, especially North Myrtle Beach, SC. Elinor had fond memories of spending time with friends in Chelmsford, MA in the early years, their Texas friends, and friends from Dean’s Navy years.  They loved to travel around the US to visit landmarks, friends, and family. Elinor had an enormous heart and love for her grandchildren and enjoyed being involved in their lives every day.

She is survived by her sons: Dean Giroux, Jr. (Sandra) of MN, James Giroux (Mary Bryan) of GA, Matthew Giroux (Estela) of NC; daughter, Elaine Hughes (Michael) of CO; and eight grandchildren: Summer, Cassandra, Drake, Matias, Andrew, Thomas, Benjamin and Nicholas.

In addition to her parents, Elinor was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Dean Daniel Giroux, and her siblings: Shirley Alice Pennaman, Joseph Edward Tierney, Jr, and Robert Thomas Tierney.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
