Dorothy (Gray) Tharrington

Dorothy Gray Tharrington, 83, passed away Monday, June 6, 2022. She was born August 8, 1938 in Franklin County to the late Herman Tharrington and Mamie Hackney Tharrington. Dorothy was a resident of Cary Health & Rehab for the last 22 years, where she made a huge impact on staff and other residents. She loved animals, especially her cat Casey. She was loving, outgoing, loved to tell jokes and stories to anyone who would listen, but most of all she loved life. 

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 18, 2022 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale. The family will greet family and friends immediately following the service. 

She is survived by her sons: James “Jamie” Holden (David), Frankie Tant (Ann); daughters: Kathy Tant Perry, Thursa Tant Lopez (Salvador), Mamie Jo Aycock (Bobby); 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; special friends: Brenda Hayes and Beverly Edleman. 

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sons: Shane Holden, Willie Holden; daughter, Jodi Lynn Tant; brothers: Billy Tharrington, Allen Tharrington; a special cousin, Mollie Holden.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Way, Raleigh, NC.
