Mrs. Doris M. Flowers, 80, of Garner died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Garner on Thursday night, September 23, 2021. Doris was born July 7, 1941, in Johnston County, daughter of the late Willie Wilbert and Venie Hudson Messer.
Doris was retired from Southern Bell/AT&T after 30 years of service as a telephone operator. In her free time, she loved being with family and being her grandkids’ biggest cheerleader on any sports field or court. She could often be found sitting at the head of the table playing on her iPad or playing a round of UNO or Skip Bo with her family. She was quick to offer jellybeans to anyone who came through the door and was known for calling anyone out for cheating on a game, all while being a pro at that herself.
A memorial will be held 5:00 pm, Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, by Pastor Karl Leonard.
Family will receive visitors after the service for a brief visitation.
Doris is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Daniel J. Flowers Sr., three children: Daniel J. Flowers Jr., Kimberly F. Baker and husband Sterling L. Baker, and Darlene E. Flowers, three grandchildren: Kristen B. Gulley and husband Gregory P. Gulley, Jr., Sterling C. Baker, and Hunter L. Baker, and 3 great grandchildren: Braxton P. Gulley, Colton B. Gulley, and Emerson R. Gulley.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Clawson L., and Moses D. Messer
