Dexter Stell, 93, of Raleigh died peacefully at home on July 10, 2021. Dexter was born on August 27, 1927 in Wake County to Fletcher and Alice (Watkins) Stell. He was the second of seven children and the oldest son. He married Linda Massey on July 23, 1949 and they shared 70 years of love and adventure.
Dexter was a bold Christian that loved the Lord, his family and his fellow man. He lived a full life, always eager to try something new and exciting. Dexter got his private pilot’s license when he was 16 years old and was an avid pilot all of his adult life. He received the Master Pilot Award from the FFA in 2012. Some of his favorite things to do included traveling to new places all over the country in his motorhome, flying airplanes, taking frequent road trips, riding horses, water skiing, riding motorcycles, cooking for a crowd, making homemade ice cream, listening to southern gospel music and playing with his great-grandchildren. His greatest joy was to take someone on a new adventure and show them things they had never seen before. For at least 20 years, he took friends and family to the mountains of Wyoming to ride horses like real cowboys.
Dexter is survived by his daughter, Robin Stell Baker (Marshall); son, David Massey Stell (Michelle) ; daughter-in-law, Nancy Bashford Stell; grandchildren: Matt Baker (Julie), Renn Baker McMurray (Roger), A.G. Stell (Torri), Kathryn Stell Schmidt (Zack), Massey Stell, Jessica Stell; 11 great-grandchildren; his baby sister, Ann Stell Baynes (Stanley) and brother-in-law, Fred Mangum,
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Massey Stell; son, Dexter E. Stell, III; great-grandson, Abraham Schmidt; and his siblings: Mary Alice Stell Barham, James Stell, Joyce Stell Mangum, A.G. Stell, and Bobby Stell.
