David Frederick Massey, Sr.

David was born in the Wake Crossroads area on a farm which is today Massey Preserve on Forestville Road. He was the son of the late Jesse C. Massey and Flora Katherine Alford Massey (Kate). David was youngest of six children. His brothers Crayton, Herbert, Joseph and sisters Laura Jones and Ethel Massey predeceased him.

David was married to Jewel Richardson Massey for 67 years before her passing. David is survived by daughter Sandra Massey Reiner (Riley), son David F. Massey, Jr. (JoAnne), two grandchildren Jennifer R. Wimmer (Jason) and Todd Reiner (Lindsey), four great grandchildren Colin and Carys Wimmer, Riley and Aubrey Reiner, and two step grandchildren Joey Brandt (Lina) and Leslie Frey (Chris).

David was an Army veteran of WWII and served in the European Theater. The US Postal Service was his primary career for 30 years followed by work with a courier service.

David and Jewel were faithful members of Longview Baptist until their health declined. They enjoyed camping, traveling in their motor home and spending time with their grandchildren.

Both David and Jewel resided at Morningside of Raleigh for their final years. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of Morningside for the loving care and support over the years.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 20 at Longview Baptist Church 2308 N New Hope Rd. Raleigh 27604. Family will receive friends at 10:00 am. at the church. Interment will follow the service at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Longview Baptist Church building fund at 2308 N New Hope Rd. Raleigh 27604.
