Darla Jean (Ferrell) Cardon Truelove

Darla Jean Ferrell Cardon Truelove, 85, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021.  She was born October 27, 1935 in Durham County and was an only child to the late Claude Berry Ferrell and Mae Frances White Ferrell. She graduated from Broughton High School and attended Kings College in Raleigh. Darla worked as a desk clerk at the Holiday Inn for fifteen years. She was a former member of Olde Mount Vernon Baptist Church and recently a member of Raleigh First Church of the Nazarene now known as Amplify. She loved her church family dearly and was always excited to see them.  “Darla Jean” as she was known to her extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins grew up in Raleigh. She enjoyed movies at the State theater, fishing, sports and relaxing at the beach on a beautiful sunny day.  She was married to Gil, the love of her life for almost 22 years. Darla was a fun mom and grandmother who fiercely loved the Lord and her family.   Although she lost her speech she could still say these three words, “I love you”.  Her white board became her best friend as she shared Christ boldly and communicated to everyone that Jesus loved them too.  For many years she taught Sunday school and enjoyed studying God’s Word with Bible Study Fellowship, Heart to Heart and later the Revelation Seeker ladies. 

She is survived by husband, Gilbert Roland Truelove; daughters: Susan Cardon Broadwell (Ken), Lisa Cardon Clark (Lane); sons: Steven Claude Cardon (Debra), Robert Raymond Cardon (Mary); step-children: Kenny Truelove (Jane), Michael Truelove (Glenda), Bonnie T. Bridges (Bobby); step-son in-law, Ray Price; grandchildren: Scott Perry Broadwell (Bethany), Chadwick Alan Broadwell (Kristin), Christine Nicole Cardon, Ryan McQueen Williams; great-grandchildren: Davis Perry Broadwell, Austin Scott Broadwell, John Nelson Broadwell, Lilah Merle Broadwell.

In addition to her parents, Darla was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Cyndi Truelove Price.

The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice for their wonderful compassion and loving care they provided to our mother and our family. Darla would say “I love you”. 

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 8400 Poole Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.   

A private burial was held at Montlawn Memorial Park.
