Obituary

Charles Leonard Grant, Sr., 90 years old, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Affectionately known to all of his friends as Big Charlie, he was born November 19, 1931 to the late Leonard L. Grant and Ethel Whitley Grant in Smithfield. When he graduated from high school he entered into the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Korean War. Returning home, he attended Campbell College where he received an accounting degree which led him to a career with Carolina Power and Light. After which, he ventured into real estate and eventually construction and development where he spent the rest of his professional life. He loved hunting, fishing, and boating with his family. One of his favorite places was a creek or a pond catching whatever bit that cricket or worm. Big Charlie was one of a kind that never met a stranger. He had a great sense of humor that entertained everyone around, and a laugh that you would not forget. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He adored his family and never missed a sporting event for his children and grandchildren. He loved the Lord, his country, and his family.

A private graveside service will be held at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
