Charles Ronald Coates

Charles Ronald “Ronnie” Coates, (aka Biggie), age 66, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023. Ronnie was born December 8, 1956, in Wake County to Margaret Simpkins Riggs and the late Charles Leonard Coates. Ronnie never met a stranger and had an outgoing personality that could light up a room. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Bentley. Ronnie was the proud business owner of Korner Pocket Sports Bar in Raleigh for over 38 years. 

He is survived by his mother, Margaret Riggs; daughters: Ashley Coates, Taylor Coates (Frankie); grandson, Bentley Daoust; brothers: Ricky Coates (Sheila), Randy Coates (Emily), Robert Coates (Pam); numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many extended family, friends, and loved ones; and his dog, Zeus.   

In addition to his father, Ronnie was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Coates; and his beloved fiancé, Shannon Lovelady. 

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, March 23, 2023, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545. 

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, March 24, 2023, at Montlawn Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
