Obituary

Angela Lynn “Angie” DeMent, 60, of Knightdale, NC passed away on September 4, 2023 after years of battling disease. Angie was born in Winston-Salem, NC at Baptist Memorial Hospital to the late and great Russell W. DeMent, Jr. and Lynn Robertson DeMent and grew up in Raleigh, NC. Angie graduated from Ravenscroft School and received both a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest University. During Angie’s freshman year at WFU, Angie met her husband of 33 years, John William Ormand III who recently passed away in July. Their first words sparked what can only be described as an “interesting power couple” for the remainder of their lives. Angie practiced alongside her late father and her brother, Russell W. “Rusty” DeMent III at DeMent Askew in Raleigh, NC for many years before retiring in 2012. Angie was renowned as a force to be reckoned with in the courtroom, trying and winning many cases on her client’s behalf. Angie never met a stranger and enjoyed conversing with family, friends, and acquaintances. For fun Angie enjoyed watching the news, comedy, political theory, and reading.

She is survived by her two children: son, John William Ormand IV (daughter-in-law Mallie); daughter, Rachel Ormand Laughery (son-in-law Zane Laughery); sister, Caren Winifred “Winnie” DeMent (brother-in-law Joe Walsh); brother, Russell Weldon “Rusty” DeMent III; mother-in-law, Betsy Ormand; father-in-law, John William Ormand Jr.; sisters-in-law: Lisa, Rueann, Kristin, and Maggi Ormand; brothers-in-law: Stewart Taylor, Mark Beesley, Ben McCollum; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and furry friends.

The family cannot thank Kim Greer and her family enough for their invaluable support and care for Angie over the past several years.

In accordance with Angie’s wishes, a private memorial will be held at the family’s farm in Knightdale in October.
