Andrew Jackson "Dock" Watkins

August 24, 1938 ~ June 5, 2020 (age 81)


Andrew Jackson “Dock” Watkins, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2020. Dock was born August 24, 1938 in Wake County to the late Wesley Marvin Watkins and Nellie Hagwood Watkins. He owned and operated Watkins Starter Repair and was a member of Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church.

Dock was an avid farmer who always had crops to share. He would use a few special rows with flowers for Barbara Ann. He spent time in the kitchen to bake cakes and pies, which were quickly given away to family and friends. He loved his family and his two grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Dock is survived by his son, Tony Bridges (Brenda); sister, Rebecca Medlin (Garland); grandchildren: Blair Bridges Appleby (Austin) and Hayden Bridges (Karen); great-grandchildren: Wyatt Appleby, Colton Appleby, and Sammy Bridges.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ray Watkins; sisters: Ethel “Big Lady” Watkins Medlin and Laura Watkins Medlin; brothers: Norris “Hog”, Leonard “Len”, Willie, Milton “Warhorse”, George “Buck” and Alton “Shorty” Watkins.                         

A service to celebrate Dock’s life will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545. Burial will follow at Watkins Family Cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home. The family will leave for a meal at Noon and return for the service at 1:00 pm.
