Almus Jackson "AJ" Jeffreys, Jr.

A. J. Jeffreys, Jr., 96, journeyed to his eternal home on May 7, 2018. He passed at home surrounded by his children and family. 

A. J. was born and reared in Knightdale, NC and later moved to Raleigh after he married Algerline Crabtree from Clayton, NC. His professional career began in sales and then he owned Community Grocery on Oberlin Road for approximately 26 years and then a successful insurance business for approximately 25 years. 

He is predeceased by his wife, Algerline, in 2004. Also, predeceasing him were brothers, Gene, Macon, Braxton, Emmitt and two sisters, Margaret Jeffreys Murray of Winston Salem and Melba Jeffreys Crosby of Raleigh. Sister, Anne Jeffreys Howell, currently resides in New Bern. 

A.J. is survived by: Daughters, Judy Jeffreys Widenhouse of Myrtle Beach, SC (Joe deceased), Jackie Jeffreys Adams of Raleigh (D.H., deceased), Deborrah Jeffreys Gruder of Raleigh (Scott, deceased) and one son, A. J. "Jay" Jeffreys, III of Raleigh, (wife, Christy). Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Doane Widenhouse (Desiree), Chad Widenhouse, Tracy Adams Daniels, (Chad), Dave Adams, Leigh Adams White, (Shawn), Jeffrey Adams, Ashir Gruder (Kristan) Joshua Gruder (Meagan), Danielle Jeffreys and Jackson Jeffreys. Great-grandchildren include Lauren Daniels, Kayla Daniels, Savannah Adams, Riley Widenhouse, Blake Heminway, Addison White and Carson White.

Visitation will be held at Harold Poole Funeral Home, Knightdale, NC on Thursday, May 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A service to celebrate A.J.'s life will be held Friday, May 11 at 11:00 am at Knightdale United Methodist Church, Forestville Road, Knightdale, NC.
