Shirley Allen Dark

Shirley Allen Dark, 82, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Shirley was born May 1, 1935 in Johnston County, the daughter of the late Clarence and Viola Allen.  After graduating from Corinth Holder’s School, she spent a career of over 50 years serving the State of NC, in positions with the NC Department of Motor Vehicles and NC Department of Agriculture.  She was a woman of strong faith and enjoyed working in the yard and garden, cooking and baking, and watching all types of sports, especially Duke athletics.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. Dark; brother, Floyd Allen; and sister Oystene Stott.  She is survived by her children; daughter, Sonja Emerson; sons, Danny Hinton and Michael Hinton (Dana); stepchildren; Jane, Betsy, and William; sister, Phyllis Straughn; grandchildren, Jessica, Jenna, Cameron, Daniel, Caitlin, Hannah; 3 step grandchildren; and great grandchildren, James and Abbey.

Family and friends will be received 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Bethany Baptist Church, 3417 Rolesville Road, Wendell, NC 27591.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
