Samuel “Sam” McKenney, 71, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018. He was born March 5, 1946 in Camden, SC to the late Otho James McKenney, Sr. and Daisy Lee Adams McKenney.  He retired from CP&L and opened S & J Tree Removal Services.  

Funeral service 12:00 pm, Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Malaby’s Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, 911 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545. 

The family will have a quiet time prior to the service from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.  Entombment will take place following the service at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603. 

Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Sam on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm during the weekday at his home at 5512 Sandy Trail Dr., Knightdale, NC 27545.  

Surviving: sons, Sam Baker (JoAnn) of Charlotte, Todd McKenney (Mechelle) of Raleigh, Tony McKenney (Amanda) of Pelham, AL, Darren Spivey (Aretha) of Raleigh, Rodney Kearney of Raleigh; special son, Floyd Meeks (Renea) of Wake Forest; daughters, Michelle Sparks, June Morgan (Walter) all of Raleigh; brothers: Otha James McKenney, Jr., John McKenney, Daniel McKenney, Willis McKenney, Ishaq Salahuddin; sisters, Lottie Bracey, Rebecca Goodwin, Mary Johnson, Carolina Cauthen; 13 grandchildren and several great- grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Fuller McKenney on September 9, 2017, four brothers and two sisters.
