Robert Glenn Spivey

May 29, 1939 ~ November 9, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Robert G. Spivey, age 78, passed away comfortably and peacefully Thursday after several years of numerous health problems and the debilitating effects of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. He grew up in the Kenly area of Johnston County, NC in a large and loving family of nine children. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force, married Connie in 1959 and settled in Raleigh, NC where they raised their sons and had their careers. Robert worked in automotive businesses in Raleigh as a Parts Manager, eventually owning his parts store, Spivey’s Auto Parts in the Mini-City area of Raleigh where he, his sons, Jim Davis and other employees, provided expert parts service to many individuals and businesses. He went on to establish a successful dance club, The Back Door, in Raleigh’s Mini-City, which provided many dance venues including ballroom, country and line dancing, Latin dancing, shag and swing, dance showcases and other special event hosting. In operating his businesses, he met and enjoyed the company of people from all walks of life, considering them all friends. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the coast in Marshallberg, NC, relaxing with grandchildren, family and friends. 

Funeral service will be held 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 12, 2017 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545, phone 919-266-3646. 

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:45 pm at the funeral home. 

Graveside service 11:00 am, Monday, November 13, 2017 at Kenly Town Cemetery, N Englewood Dr., Kenly, 27542. 

He is survived by his family, wife, Connie Renfrow Spivey of Raleigh; sons: Robert G. Spivey, Jr. of Knightdale, William Ashley Spivey of Raleigh; grandchildren: Dustin Spivey of Raleigh, Blair Spivey of Marshallberg, NC; daughter-in-law, Holly Spivey of Marshallberg; brother, Paul G. Spivey (Peggy) of Raleigh; sisters: Betty S. Benson of Pinehurst (formerly of Fayetteville), Bertha S. Campbell of Smithfield, Geneva S. Wall Spivey (B.C.) of Princeton, Shirley S. Brown (Leroy) of Princeton; sister-in-law, Ollie M. Spivey of Kenly, Margaret McLamb (A.C. deceased) of Kenly; brother-in-law, Oliver Wall of Kenly; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and business acquaintances. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur “Bud” Spivey and Lula Mae Whitley Spivey; sister, Alleene Radford from Tarboro; brothers: Arthur Calvin “AC” Spivey and William Ray Spivey both from Kenly.
