Robert Hugh Sanders, 77, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 6, 2017. Hugh was born April 12, 1940 in Wake County to the late Robert Lee Sanders and Katie Sanders.  He honorably served his country in the US Army. He retired with 20+ years as a heavy equipment mechanic with the NC DOT. He was a loving husband, daddy, PaPa and brother. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

A service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 10, 2017 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545 with Military Honors. Officiating will be Reverend Gerald Blake, nephew to Mr. Sanders.                          

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home. 

Surviving: wife, Patricia Blake Sanders; children: Darrel Sanders of Wendell, Gayle Batchelor (Tommy Maddry) of Timberlake; Robert Sanders of Wendell; Michelle Ezzell (Mike) of Zebulon; grandchildren: Jordan and Blair Batchelor, Daryl Lyn, Abbey and Joshua Sanders; grand-dog, Rosie Ezzell; sisters: Norma Marshburn of Raleigh, Doris Sanders of Zebulon, Joyce Terry of Raleigh, Roberta Scott of Cary. 

In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by brother, Larry Wayne Sanders.
