Norma Gurkin Price, 96, departed this earthly life for her heavenly home on Friday, January 5, 2018. She was born in Atlanta, GA on October 14, 1921, the daughter of Lloyd Taylor and Julia Viola Beach Gurkin. She grew up in Sanford, FL and graduated from Seminole High School and married Robert Hinson Stanaland. During WWII, Norma supported the war effort by training in Pennsylvania to work on aircraft and provided that service at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. In 1952, she married Leonard Ransom Price and moved to Wendell, NC where she was active in Wendell United Methodist Church for 65 years. She devoted her life to her family and church and the friends she made there.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; 2 brothers: Lloyd Gurkin, Jr., Otlo Gurkin; 2 sisters: Alda Viola Godwin and Helen Frances Dalton; as well as 6 half-sisters and 4 half-brothers.

Survivors include sons: Lloyd Hardy Price (Diane) of Wake Forest, Daniel Ransom Price of Franklinton; daughter, Julia LaVerne Stanaland Ledford (Joe Lynn) of Wendell; grandson, Michael Ferrell Ledford (Vicki) of Wendell; granddaughters: Teresa Lynn Ledford of Milwaukee, WI, Rachel Diane Price of Wake Forest; great-grandson, Gavin Michael Ledford of Wendell; 2 great-granddaughters: Brittany Green Ledford and Madisyn Green Ledford both of Wendell; niece, Brenda Garner (Jerry) of Princeton; and a host of special nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, January 8, 2018 at Wendell United Methodist Church, 129 N. Main Street, Wendell, 27591. Burial Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, 809 W Gannon Ave, Zebulon, 27597.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the church and other times at the home of Joe & Julia Ledford.
