Johnnie Freeman, Jr.

Johnnie Freeman, Jr., 87, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018. He was born March 2, 1930 in Franklin County to the late Johnnie Asbury Freeman, Sr. and Annie Nines Freeman. He worked for over 30 years at Dorothea Dix Hospital. Johnnie married Lena Belle O’Briant Freeman on June 2, 1949 and they shared a wonderful life together until her death on September 29, 2014. Johnnie and his family lived 42 years on Avent Ferry Road and lifelong members of Athens Drive Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, driving his wife to work every day and taking her on various errands. As long as their health permitted they attended church together every Sunday. 

Graveside service 11:00 am, Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, 27612.   

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545. 

Surviving: son, Johnnie Wayne Freeman; granddaughters: Jennifer Lynn Freeman; Sheena Freeman; great-granddaughter, Raven Freeman; sister, Marjorie F. Haith. 

In addition to his parents and his wife, Johnnie was preceded in death by daughter, Theresa Lena Freeman and numerous brothers and sisters. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Athens Drive Baptist Church, 1601 Athens Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606.
